Discover Hikkaduwa

Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Hikkaduwa, in south-west of Sri Lanka, is a large coastal area with eleven different villages over 6.5 km (4.0 mi) on the Indian Ocean, and 3 km (1.9 mi) inland, in the Galle District.

Located on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, Hikkaduwa is a popular tourist destination known for its stunning beaches, vibrant nightlife, and rich cultural heritage. The town is famous for its coral reefs, which are teeming with tropical marine life, making it a popular spot for snorkeling and scuba diving.

But Hikkaduwa has much more to offer than just its beaches. The town is dotted with ancient Buddhist temples, including the Hikkaduwa Seenigama Vihara, which dates back to the 16th century. The temple is located on a small island just off the coast, accessible by boat.
